Murray and Phyllis Tate are proud to offer a special rate for two 5-day private artists’ cruises in Prince William Sound aboard the 52-foot M/V NULIAQ
with renowned classical watercolor art instructor Vladimir Zhikhartsev
Daily classes will include demos (onboard and/or onshore) as well as individual help. There will also be time for exploring & fishing depending upon the desires of the group.
Space is limited to 5 individuals at a time and you should expect to share a room. You will paint both on and off the boat, as weather permits. Weather and travel times will determine our painting time and locations. Our schedule will be flexible and subject to change depending upon weather and the majority’s wishes. Reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis.
Recommended Material List:
Please bring your “YARKA” or other watercolor set, 1 inch flat, #10, #8, #6, #4, #2 round and #2 Rigger synthetic or natural watercolor brushes, 3 or 4 11”x15” or smaller pieces of Arches 140lb Cold Press, Bright white watercolor paper with support (piece of foam board, plastic or plywood slightly larger then your paper), any white masking tape, pencil, kneaded eraser, small notebook, paper towels, double water containers.
Trip #1: (Beginners - Intermediate) June 13 - 18, 2020
Trip #2: (Intermediate - Advanced) June 22 - 27, 2020
ITINERARY: Arrive in Valdez on Saturday, June 13. We will depart at 5 pm (earlier if everyone is there), have dinner and spend the night in a scenic bay on the Sound. For the next 5 days we will cruise to various bays and inlets to explore and paint the beauty of the Sound. Expect to return to Valdez either Thursday evening June 18th or, if it is agreeable to everyone, on Friday morning June 19, 2020.
Dates for the second trip will be June 22 - 27, Arrive in Valdez on Monday, June 22. We will depart at 5pm or earlier if everyone is present. You will have dinner aboard the Nuliaq that evening then cruise and explore the Sound for the next five days, returning the evening of Saturday, June 27 or Sunday, June 28th in the morning). Our return schedule is flexible and depends upon the majority's wishes.
ROOM & BOARD: Two staterooms are available (1 w/double & single bunk and 1 w/Queen bed). Both have full baths. (Link to stateroom pictures here) The pilot house and salon tables can also be made into beds (1 queen & 1 king). Artists should plan to share a stateroom and/or bed. You might want to team up with a friend who would like to make the trip with you. We provide all bedding and all meals which we try to keep light, nutritious and healthy (lots of seafood). We do serve deserts, but don't provide junk food or hard liquor.
COST: Price for the 5-day trip is $2400 based on double occupancy. A deposit of $1,000 per person due April 1, 2020 will reserve your space. Balance is due upon boarding the boat. Refund is available if you cancel AND we fill your spot.
COMMUNICATIONS: Cell service throughout the Sound is spotty. In an emergency we can travel to where a signal is available. In the bays where we anchor at night we typically do NOT have cell service. We have plenty of outlets for charging your electronics.
REGISTRATION: Fill out the form at the bottom of Page 2 indicating your preferences and needs, then return it with your deposit to the address on the form.
